History at Liberated Text's web mark-up of
The Walsh Iran/Contra Report

Note: A javascript enabled browser must be used to view the Iran/Contra Report on this web site. A noscript version has not been implemented. If this is unacceptable to you, The Federation of American Scientists has a complete Iran/Contra Report online.

About this archive - 2007.03.17

This Web mark-up project of History at Liberated Text is an attempt to render the content of the Iran/Contra Report into a more readable and therefore more accessible format. To do this, the footnote have been separated from the main body content, the browser viewscreen is fixed into 3 divisions, and the footnotes are available for reading in the lower right division by clicking the URIs in the main body. This was achieved through scripting the DOM. For Manipulation of the DOM, The Yahoo! User Interface Library is used. Mark 'Tarquin' Wilton-Jones' Generic DHTML do everything script, available at www.howtocreate.co.uk is used also. (Mr. Wilton-Jones, there is good reason the believe you may have visited this site at least once, if you visit again, liberated text's main coder wishes to apologise for not implementing your script exactly as the free-license dictated, and to offer an explanation: when the site was first being marked-up, your code was used as a quick and easy implementation to toggle the footnote visibility so the less tech-aware editors could begin the mark-up. It was originally intended that a quick change of methods using just the Yahoo codebase would be implemented shortly after, but real life obligations and time constraints blew that all to hell. If you desire to flog us unmercifully, there is a contact pointer centeredPageBottom). For anyone who happens to be looking for good Javascript tutorials, and usable libraries, as well as many other web coding tips, visit Mr. Wilton-Jones' How To Create website. His ability to describe web coding in understandable terms makes this site one of the best for learning how to code for the web.

This archive is deep linkable at the chapter subsection level, and we encourage any and all deep linking to pages in this archive. The Marked-up Chapters can be accessed by the navigation panel on the left. A complete complete Table of Contents including linkable subsections follows.

2007.03.15 - With the exception of a completed index of the archive that includes active inner links, and typo corrections, the content of the Walsh Iran/Contra Report archive is complete at Liberated Text dot org. The source content of this archive consists of 52 and is a little over 3mb in size. There are still future plans to rework a bit of the JS code, and possibly the CSS code as well, in an effort to smooth out the presentation.
